Our 2026 Lambs
Our 2026 lambs were born between March 4 and April 13. All are registered with Katahdin Hair Sheep International. Inc. (KHSI), and all are enrolled in the National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP). Our lambs' weight gains are typically due solely to milk, hay and pasture/browse, as we are a forage-based operation, reserving grain for ewes only in late gestation/lactation and for triplet lambs. Lambs will be genotyped for scrapie resistance, with all testing RR or QR. They will be vaccinated twice to prevent overeating disease, tetanus and pneumonia .
Data: EBVs and Raising-Adjusted Weights
We use Estimated Breeding Values, which link the data from our animals to related animals on other farms, to give us a better idea of how our sheep's offspring will perform. These values also guide us as we purchase stock, make mating decisions and assign prices. EBVs increase in accuracy over time as more farm connections and information are added. In our lamb profiles below, the NSIP IDs are hyperlinked to each animal's page in the NSIP Searchable Database when available, allowing you to see the full range of EBVs and trace pedigrees. At Bluestem Farm, we have selected for parasite resistance and good mothering.
We calculate Raising-Adjusted Weights to level the playing field for our lambs, accounting for gender, birth type, the age of their dams and other conditions that affect weight gain. In our profiles, we include a 60-day Raising-Adjusted Weight for all of the lambs that have reached that age.
Terms of Purchase
Our ewe lambs will start at $500 and increase according to their NSIP estimated breeding values as well as visual appraisals. We require a $100 nonrefundable deposit to hold a lamb. Bluestem Farm will cover the cost of registration with KHSI.
Transportation
Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer, including fees for any required certificates of veterinary inspection. However, for those within 200 miles of Weatherford and/or the DFW area of Texas, we will deliver for a mileage fee, including the return trip.
